Bablake is proud to have an impressive number of local and national partnerships.

If you are interested in a partnership opportunity as an individual or for your charity, company, school or organisation, please contact Mrs Cathy Scott-Burt, Outreach Co-ordinator, by telephone (024 76271240) or email csb@bablake.coventry.sch.uk .

Primary School Partnerships

We have many Primary partners, who visit us for activities, sports or arts events or who take up our offer of specialist teaching workshops on their site, including, for example, St. Osburg’s which has regular language teaching from Bablake 6th form pupils, and has also attended several arts and sports events at the school.

Arts Award

The Arts Award inspires young people to grow their arts and leadership talents: it's creative, valuable and accessible. Bablake Music department has been running the Arts Award for 3 years, and we have had several successful moderations at all levels. There are 3 levels of Award- Bronze, Silver and Gold; all levels offer opportunities to create and perform in Music, Dance, Drama, Art, Textiles and Photography. There is a real focus on independent learning in the arts, and as pupils progress through the levels, they increasingly offer chances to lead arts activities for others.

Artsmark

Artsmark is Arts Council England’s flagship programme to enable schools to evaluate, strengthen and celebrate their arts and cultural provision and we are proud to say that in 2014 we have been recognised as an outstanding school for our commitment to music, art, drama and dance with a prestigious Artsmark Gold award. Only around 15% of schools nationally gain this recognition from the Arts Council; it involves a rigorous application process, followed by a validation visit from a professional arts consultant. Many areas of our provision are assessed, including arts in the curriculum, extra-curricular arts activities, how we work with artists and arts organisations as well as how well how our arts provision impacts on staff development and the wider community.

Aston Martin

Bablake’s Design Technology department has had a link with Aston Martin since 2004 when pupils and staff made their first factory visit. Since then, visits have taken place every year and pupils have also had placed on work experience. Mr Chris West (Head of DT) undertook a week’s work experience with them in 2010, the first practising teacher to do so. Aston Martin have also sent engineers into school as speakers for the sixth form.

Bablake Wines

Bablake Wines is a local company, established in 1929 by Vincent Wyles; members of his family still run the business today from the purpose-built Coventry headquarters. In 2013, Bablake Wines began supplying Bablake School with our own labelled wines for functions, reunions, concerts and of course for visitors and parents to purchase directly. The ‘1344’ has been a great success and has attracted many positive comments!

Cambridge Chemistry Challenge

Bablake Chemistry department enters this Cambridge University organised challenge; the competition aims to stretch and challenge students interested in chemistry, and provides an excellent experience for anyone considering taking their studies further. Set by an experienced team of teachers and university chemists, it is designed to be accessible to Lower 6th pupils but takes them significantly beyond the syllabus and encourages them to think about science in the way they would at university.

Coventry University

Coventry University, situated in the heart of the city, was recently named ‘Modern University of the Year 2014 and 2015’ in the Times/Sunday Times league tables. We are lucky to be part of their Phoenix Partnership, a programme devised by the University’s outreach and admission department to give a mutually beneficial structure where schools can work together with the University in encouraging pupils to pursue their goals and support their higher education ambitions. Benefits of the Partnership include access to activities at the University, use of the University facilities and library and regular communications about the higher education sector. Our EPQ students go to their library each year for an orientation tour, and are issued with reference passes. Recently, some of our 5th form attended a specialist computing day, and several Shell and 2nd form girls attended a STEM subject day aimed at encouraging young women into engineering and technology courses.

Duke of Edinburgh

Bablake School has been involved with the D of E programme for 21 years. A DofE programme is a real adventure from beginning to end! There are programmes at three levels, which when completed, lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award. The Award is achieved by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections (five for Gold) - Volunteering, Physical, Skills, Expedition and for Gold, a Residential. You'll find yourself helping people or the community, getting fitter, developing skills, going on an expedition and taking part in a residential activity.

Engineering Education Scheme

The link with the Engineering Education Scheme was first established by Bablake Design Technology in 1994 but since the year 2000 the department has been linked with civil engineering company Arup (through their Solihull office). Arup sponsor an entry fee for CREST awards, a residential workshop and send two engineers to Bablake every week for a teaching session, and Arup have maintained the link for the past 14 years as they recognise that here they deal with reliable and highly motivated pupils. Our pupils have also been successful in being offered work experience with Arup after completing the scheme. Bablake’s DT link is recognised within the scheme as being one of the most successful, both in terms of getting pupils onto engineering courses at University and also in the length of time we have been linked.

F1 in Schools

F1 in Schools is an international competition in which teams of students use CAD/CAM software to collaborate, design, analyse, manufacture, test, and then race miniature compressed air powered balsa wood F1 cars. Pupils use ICT to learn about physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacture, branding, graphics, sponsorship, marketing, leadership/teamwork, media skills and financial strategy, and apply them in a practical, imaginative, competitive and exciting way.

At Bablake we have entered a team of 4th/5th year pupils for the last 4 years, and we are looking forward to our best season yet. The challenge gives the pupils the opportunity to put the extensive CAD/CAM skills they develop in Design Technology to the test, and hopefully inspire them to go on to study a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) subject at University.

The school is an International Cross of Nails School (ICONS), linked to the Community of the Cross of Nails at Coventry Cathedral and committed as part of our life and ethos to the mission of the city of Coventry: Peace and Reconciliation.

At Bablake, we are committed to promoting the values of Peace and Reconciliation:

  • in our own lives, as we seek to be at peace with ourselves.
  • in our attitude to others, as we seek to live at peace with our neighbours.
  • in our life as a school community, as we seek to resolve conflict and reconcile our differences.
  • in our curriculum, as we seek to deepen our awareness and understanding of the world beyond school.
  • in our service to the local and national community, as we seek to build links and work in partnership with others.
  • in our commitment to social justice and peace, as we seek to eradicate injustice and conflict.
  • in our international links, as we seek to promote mutual support and understanding which transcends boundaries of faith, culture, race and gender.

These values are underpinned by our school aim to "promote an awareness of the world beyond school, a generosity of spirit, and a sense of service to the wider community", and form part of our mission as an International Cross of Nails School.

Tanya Kozin

Artist Tanya Kozin, who apart from being a practising artist has taught at both Coventry and Warwick Universities, has been teaching life drawing to 6th form pupils for several years. It is rare for life drawing skills to be available in schools, and the partnership has been a particularly successful one, feeding into AS and A2 portfolio work as well as supporting drawing skills that develop work in many other areas.

Zoё’s Place

Zoё’s Place provides palliative, respite and end-of-life care to babies and infants aged from birth to five years old suffering from life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. Zoё is the Greek word meaning “gift of life” and Zoё’s Place believes that life is precious no matter how long it lasts. Zoё’s Place Baby Hospices are the only baby specific Hospices in the UK; they opened their doors in Coventry and began welcoming special babies and their families in 2011. They can take up to six infants at any one time; there is also ample accommodation and facilities for the whole family if these are needed. The hospice receives little Government funding, therefore they rely on donations and fundraising, and Bablake are proud to be regular contributors to that fundraising with a range of charity events, collections and concerts.

They are the best fundraising school group I have ever had in Coventry and Warwickshire, well done and thank you so much for all your help and support.
