The School Day
School starts at 8.30am, although pupils may be dropped from 8.00am. Following Registration there is Assembly – School, Form or House, before lessons begin at 9:05am.
Morning lessons end for lunch at 12:00 noon.
Lunch is eaten in the dining hall where pupils can bring a packed lunch or purchase food from the wide variety of attractive dishes on offer. The take up of school lunches is optional and can be varied from day to day. Many extra-curricular activities take place over lunchtime.
Afternoon lessons begin at 1.00pm. The afternoon broadly follows the pattern of the morning, although the lessons are usually less academically focused.
School ends at 3.40pm.
Homework follows for children not going home between 3.40 and approximately 4.10pm.
Aftercare begins at 4:10 and runs until 6.00pm. All of this is carefully supervised and many pupils chose to stay for the convenience of getting their homework done and because they enjoy the Aftercare activities, which run until 6.00pm.
It is not necessary to book Aftercare in advance and there is a nominal charge for attendance.
Many pupils also take part in clubs, activities and fixtures after school.
Choice in dining
Pupils at Bablake Junior School have the choice of either bringing their own lunch or purchasing lunch at the school dining hall where excellent food is provided by Alliance in Partnership (AIP), the school's caterers. Pupils do not have to stick to a routine and may dip into school lunches as and when they wish.
Unless they are at clubs, all pupils go to the dining hall during lunch time and eat together. A close eye is kept on pupils to ensure that they make appropriate food selections.
Keeping an eye on things!
Pupils eat school lunches through a system of credit purchase on the internet via ParentPay, this can then be used to buy meals. Parents can keep an eye on these transactions via their own personal login. There is always a wide variety of hot and cold food including sandwiches etc and lunches are invariably popular and most tasty.

'Pupils, including those in the EYFS, attain high standards and make excellent progress in learning. In response to an excellent curriculum and a wide range of extra-curricular activities, pupils have the opportunity to find out what they enjoy and discover their individual talents. Achievements are particularly notable in literacy, mathematics and science, while drama and music are strengths in the school.'
The Parents Association plays a crucial part in the life of Bablake. Events are organised throughout the year, including the ever popular Christmas Fayre, which brings together the whole school community – pupils, staff, parents and friends. These events raise considerable funds which in the past have provided additional facilities like the adventure playground and helped with the creation of the Memorial Garden.
The Parents Association also offer invaluable support in providing refreshments on occasions like Open Days and the House Cross Country.
All parents are automatically members of the Association and meetings are held regularly.
Sending our daughter to Bablake Junior School was one of the best decisions we have ever made. Thank you!
