ART AND DESIGN
The Department of Art and Design, which has three members of staff and one technician, has achieved much in recent years contributing widely to the success of the school.

STAFF
Mr P Cleaver (Head of Department)
Mrs P A Goodwin
Mrs A S Heath
Mrs B Wood
Miss C Connelly (Technician)

FACILITIES
The department consists of a suite of studios situated within the older part of the school. It is well equipped for general art, ceramics, textiles, photography and graphics.

CURRICULUM
Art is compulsory for all pupils in years 7 to 9 and then optional in years 10 and 11. At GCSE, there are currently 76 pupils. Numbers vary in the 6th form but there are presently 12 pupils in the L6th taking AS, and 14 in the U6th taking A2. We complement our teaching by running workshops and field trips for examination classes.

ETHOS
Within the Bablake School Art Department we encourage pupils to think inventively in order to develop visual images and form critical judgements. The department focuses on the individual, encouraging each pupil to gain confidence and learn that there are many approaches to Art and Design rather than only one right way. We encourage the awareness of both contemporary and traditional methods and approaches, the influence of which can be seen throughout all the year groups. Our Gallery successfully shows this variety.

DESTINATIONS
It is gratifying to see a number of our students embark upon degree courses in Architecture, Fashion and Graphic Design as well as undertaking Art Foundation courses upon leaving Bablake's 6th Form

EXTRA CURRICULAR
The department believes in creating as many opportunities as possible to foster the visual awareness of pupils and to stretch the abilities of those pupils with particular interests or aptitudes. To this end we provide:
An Art Club which operates most lunchtimes.
A photography club which operates once a week.
Visits to exhibitions nationally.
