CURRICULUM

The curriculum embraces a rich combination of major games and more contemporary physical activities. PE and games are compulsory in years 7 – 11.

Post 16, there is the AS/ A2 option of Physical Education alongside an extensive games programme involving most sixth form students. Here there is an opportunity to select from a variety of activities including aerobics, climbing, shooting, yoga and martial arts or train and play for school in hockey, netball, rugby and football.

The range of activities is very directed in the lower school, leading to more choice later on. Rugby, hockey, netball, tennis, athletics and cricket are taught in depth to years 7 – 10 and this is complemented by a balanced PE programme which aims to cover both the aesthetic and fitness aspects of the subject. PE activities include: swimming, health related fitness, badminton, gymnastics, basketball, dance, trampolining, climbing, volleyball and self defence.

ETHOS

The department aims to promote positive attitudes towards active participation in Physical Education and Sport.

Each pupil is encouraged to develop their potential creating the opportunity to allow later involvement at either a recreational level or in a more competitive environment.
