As well as the main school buildings, Bablake also encompasses the following:
6th Form Centre
The Sixth Form centre is a place where the students at Bablake are able to work, rest and play. It is where students can interact with each other and discusses issues such as the Iraq crisis, the relative merits of the major political parties or more likely the social events of the weekend.
The Centre has an internet cafe, a canteen that allows the 6th Form to eat away from the rest of the school and a large social area complete with music, pool table and table football. It is a well used and much loved facility that offers rest from academic rigours if required!
Performing Arts
As well as music facilities that include 6 practice rooms, Bablake is lucky enough to have its very own theatre that seats 160 plus, as well as a separate rehearsal room.
Headmaster’s Memorial Garden
There is a place of tranquility within the Science Quad where current and former pupils, staff and parents may reflect on life and the memories of loved ones who have died.
On-site Sports Facilities
The school has on-site tennis courts, which double up as netball pitches the rest of the time. It also has a swimming pool and large sports hall, with everything from basketball hoops to trampolines as well as a generously equipped fitness suite, climbing wall and dance studio.
Astro Pitches
The Coventry School Astroturf has now given 24 years` service to the grateful pupils of Bablake and King Henry VIII. Our Junior School use it mornings and senior school girl and boy hockey players practise lunchtimes and after school, with squad training or matchplay. Saturday mornings get full use when we can offer our visitors multiple games, justifying coach travel from around the Midlands. Players of all ages from the entire Foundation get every chance to learn and develop their skills which has given a healthy number of individuals the start required to gain County, Regional and even National selection. Only very inclement weather (like heavy snowfall) prevents its year-round use.
In 1985 the Governors agreed to offer the facilities for hire to Community users when the school did not require the surfaces; the Midlands Sports Council in turn provided a substantial grant towards the installation costs. The take-up on hires 6 – 10 weekday evenings remains extremely high, with generally only the 9 – 10 slots still available. Senior Club hockey use the pitches Saturday afternoons but we still have some availability either for block bookings or one-off reservations.
Sundays are generally regarded as hockey Tournament days and we charge £150 per pitch for all-day exclusive Tournament use. Otherwise charges are:
£48 per hour full pitch
£24 per hour half pitch
These prices are inclusive of floodlighting, showers and VAT. Would-be hirers should contact the Pitch Administrator, Terry Patchett, either by e-mail twp@ bablake.coventry.sch.uk or by phone on 024 7627 1253 voicemail and FAX.
