Richard Is Flying High

News and Features Co-curricular

U6th pupil and Air Training Corps cadet Richard Coton, who is currently enjoying a week of mock examinations and study leave along with the rest of his year group, will be hoping the grades he receives next week (and in the summer) will add a final gloss to what has been a tremendous academic year for him so far!

Richard followed a very good submission for our Careers department's 2012-13 CV Challenge by achieving the best U6th performance in our 2014 Mock Interview Morning. (Francesca Bellingeri and Helena Worthington were also highly commended at this event.)

Rated in the top categories for each of his two interviews with external professionals, Richard's preparation, knowledge, delivery and enthusiasm were all highly praised by his interviewers.

As well as instigating a Flight Simulator Club at Bablake for all years- which included a successful appeal to our Headmaster for funding, and negotiations with academic departments to include 'flights' in their academic teaching- Richard has been making steady progress in the skies of Coventry and Warwickshire as he seeks hisEASA Private Pilot's Licence.

After clocking up 25 hours in the skies on dual control at Coventry Aeroplane Club over the last four years, Richard recently flew the first of 10 solo hours required. He also needs to complete 5 hours of cross-country navigation to reach the 45 hours necessary for his PPL. There are nine examinations to pass and Richard has completed three of these so far alongside his A Level studies.

We wish Richard well for the rest of his time at Bablake and obviously his future plans, which may include gaining his Commercial Pilot and Airline Transport Pilot licences.
