Bablake Reading Week- (1) Alex Scarrow Visit Makes A Great Impact

Co-curricular Library

As part of Bablake’s Reading Week 2014, we were delighted to welcome Alex Scarrow to the school. Alex is an author who specialises in Young Adult fiction and his series of books in the ‘TimeRiders’ series have been both a commercial and critical success.

After an informative and engaging speech, Alex invited pupils to ask questions. The pupils were a real credit to the school in their approach and were delighted that they had the opportunity to meet an author and discover his influences.

  • Imogen Al-Dabbagh said: 'He was really funny and when he was speaking, he drew you in.'
  • Sam Butler added: 'It was very enjoyable to listen to. I’m now going to buy one of his books!'
  • Anna Williams stated: 'When he was reading the first ‘TimeRiders’ book, he was really expressive and told the story well. It felt like you were part of the story.'

Pupils were asked to email the Newsroom with their views and Giselle Pinto wrote: 'I feel that Alex Scarrow's visit to Bablake really opened our eyes, as we listened to his wonderful tale about how he was inspired to become an author. I am sure that many of us have now considered going down the path of writing. His work too was very interesting and completely blew me away. His life story gave me hope that one day I could try out writing stories.'

Charlotte Bull also emailed, saying: 'I thoroughly enjoyed Alex Scarrow's visit because he really inspired me. I can't wait to read his TimeRiders series and he even signed them for me!'

We are very grateful to Mrs Julie Needham (Head Librarian) for her work in organising the visit, while the English department especially would like to take this opportunity to thank Alex Scarrow for taking the time to visit the school.
