Bablake Reading Week- (3) Library Book Fair Success

Archive Archive

One noticeable impact of Reading Week has been the increased interest in the Book Fair organised by our Librarians Mrs Julie Needham and Mrs Lucy Ryan.

This time sales amounted to approximately £600 worth of books, posters and stationery items. We are very grateful to our pupils and parents for supporting the Book Fair so well, especially since this means the Library will gain £250 worth of books in return.

The selection of books was particularly good this year, with James Dashner's 'The Maze Runner Trilogy' and Jeff Kinney’s new book ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul’ both flying off the shelves!

Mrs Julie Needham (Head Librarian) added: 'It is wonderful to witness the buzz the Scholastic Book Fair creates and it is a great source of encouragement that our pupils enjoy reading so much. The Book Fair provides pupils with access to some of the excellent range of contemporary and classic fiction available today and has combined very well with Reading Week.

I recall that American writer Madeleine L’Engle said: ‘A book too, can be a star, a living fire to lighten the darkness, leading out into the expanding universe.' That seems to echo what our pupils find with their reading!'

The photograph submitted by Head Librarian Mrs Julie Needham shows the winners of the Book Fair Raffle: 2nd year pupil Kelly Turnbull and Shell Aren Manoharan.
