Bablake Reading Week- (4) DT Finds Designers Of The Future

Archive Archive

As part of the hugely successful 2014 Reading Week, once again the Design Technology department held a competition to discover outstanding designers in our Shell and 2nd year classes.

Each pupil was asked to read and analyse literature on different design movements and then create a piece of furniture, on paper, which reflected the era. Our Shells were inspired by the Memphis design movement of the 1980s, while the second year considered the Bauhaus movement of the 1930s.

Head of Design Technology Mr Chris West commented: 'We were impressed by how diverse and creative many of the solutions presented were and it was a shame that the winning ideas could not be manufactured.

Hopefully the two winners will continue their Design Technology careers through the school and thereby they will have a chance to turn their ideas into reality at examination level via their practical projects.

As a department we are massive supporters of the Reading Week initiative and we are already looking forward to it returning in the Autumn.'

The photograph submitted by Mr West shows the winning pupils receiving design books and also exhibiting their ideas.
