Bablake Reading Week (5)- Experimental Music

Senior School

Finally today, we take a brief look at our Music department during the 2014 Reading Week initiative! Mrs Cathy Scott-Burt (Music and Head of Enrichment) was naturally full of enthusiasm for the lessons taught, saying:

'I loved introducing my 11 and 12-year old pupils to the crazy world of experimental and contemporary classical music. They listened to a selection of works that any university student would find 'heavy going', but they seemed to love every minute and came up with some really perceptive thinking about when- or if- sound becomes music!'

Who knows but maybe someone in those classes will have been thinking that this classical background will be a really strong influence on their future musical career? Maybe too they will emulate Will Hine, aka Whiney, whose classical knowledge has proved very helpful with his gradual rise through the drum'n'bass ranks.
