Some Of The Stories From 2015's A Level Results Day

The delights and agonies of A Level Results Day are almost complete, although inevitably a few pupils are now awaiting examination remarks and the outcome of Clearing negotiations.

As always, for some pupils the cruelty of the day is that despite gaining 360 UCAS points or more, their Firm choice has not been able to take them; while a piece of paper does not define years of excellence and employability skills, Results Day brings undeserved heartache for a few every year, but we know that, being Bablake students, these people do bounce back even stronger.

For the majority of our pupils however, we are delighted to report that after the agonies of what seems now like a late teenage version of Christmas Eve, yesterday morning brought everything they had hoped it would. Our nationally nominated Wheatleyan magazine team shared 12*s and 24 A grades, with editor Becky Williamson gaining ABB to allow an adjustment place at Coventry University (rated 15th in the country now) for Psychology and Criminology, and deputy editor Connor Putnam gaining a super 3 A*s to confirm his place for Medicine at the University of Leicester.

School captains Brad Pinkham and Keisha Simms, both prospective Economics students, gained the grades to confirm their dream courses at Loughborough and Cambridge respectively. Rubi Ingaglia too sealed her Spanish and Beginner's Italian place at Oxford.

In all, 20 of our 97 pupils gained 3 A*/A grades or more. Alex Towlson, our Ogden Trust Physicist of the Year, and Sivarjuen Ravichandran led the charge with a fabulous 4 A*s. Elaine Chen, Jake Dolphin, Pamilla Kang, Amy Kuner and Danujan Sivanesan gained an impressive 3 A*s and 1 A, and Connor Putnam a solid 3 A*s (as mentioned above). Elaine is to be especially congratulated since her grades were achieved after just two years with us after joining Bablake from mainland China.

A dozen students achieved 3 grades or more at A*/ A. Congratulations to Simran Bansal, Fran Bellingeri, Jack Broad, Georgia Clarke, Brogan Coulson-Haggins, Moni Dhariwal, Beth Dwyer, Kate Edmiston, Emmanuel Engelbert and George Esworthy as well as again to Rubi Ingaglia and Keisha Simms.

Two of our students have already impressed employers. With 260 UCAS points Daniel Phipps has started work as an apprentice HGV mechanic at Imperial Commercials, while Daniel Cotton, who gained 420 UCAS points, after turning down prime university places at Warwick and Sheffield, will soon embark upon a superb 5 year higher apprenticeship programme with Capgemini, which will include a Software Engineering degree from Aston University.

Head of Careers Mr Mark Woodward commented: 'The future for the Class of 2008 is very, very bright! I have every faith that these students will achieve fantastic things beyond Bablake. Their grades are impressive, but, as I say every year, what they do out of the classroom is even more phenomenal and this is one of the factors why employers really do love Bablake pupils!'
