Sport For All

Senior School Sport

Our 2015 Sports Day offered parents, pupils and staff the privilege of watching emerging Team GB wheelchair athlete Kare Adenegan win the U14 800m race, ahead of Fairfax runner Rory Meechan.

Taking part in the day's athletics fulfilled a dream Kare had had ever since being inspired by the 2012 Paralympic Games in London. She confirmed this in a post on her official Facebook page, when she wrote: 'I will be racing at my school sports day. It is something that I have always wanted to do since I started wheelchair racing in 2012. To me, being in those races is like showing everyone there that sport is truly for ALL. If I can at least inspire one person, that will be enough!'

While Kare's win for Wheatley did not grab the 2014-15 House Trophy from Bayley, her performance was the highlight of the whole day for the majority of spectators. Kare added: 'My school has been supporting me so much, ... encouraging me since my first race (Virgin London Mini Marathon 2013) to the IPC Italian Grand Prix 2015. I am so thankful for all my school friends who have always showed a interest in my athletics, and also to the teachers who ask me what races I am doing.'

Her progress in less than three years of racing and training has been inspirational and has shown everyone how anything is possible. The Bablake community, which has continued to feel great pride in Kare's international performances, wishes her all the very best for her training programme that will hopefully lead to a future Olympic appearance.
