Why We Love Sport At BJS

Junior School Junior School Sport

Through participation in sport, young people learn about the importance of key values such as: honesty, teamwork, fair play, respect for themselves and others, and adherence to rules (www.sportanddev.org).

At BJS we believe that sport is key to a young person’s development and we encourage all pupils to take part in a variety of sports during their time with us. We understand that some children will be more interested in sport than others, however “pupils are encouraged to participate in a wide range of sporting activities, whatever their level of skill and aptitude” (Independent Schools Inspectorate). Participation in sport at BJS is seen as ‘the norm’ and pupils look forward to and enjoy sport at school.

We are great believers in ‘sport for all’ and all of our students are given the opportunity to represent the school in school fixtures. We feel this gives them a sense of pride and believe that experiencing winning or losing (hopefully winning!) is invaluable for their development as individuals.

With specialist coaching across 19 different sports there is something for everyone at BJS from Chess to Cricket and Athletics to Martial Arts. With such a varied offer children are able to find something they are passionate about and once they have, they are given the training and encouragement to thrive.

Not only do we have high levels of participation across the school we also have high levels of performance. Our pupils act with professionalism and great sportsmanship during fixtures and reap the rewards of their hard work in training with excellent results. Most recently our Chess A Team beat a Campion High School side, featuring 6th Formers, in the Coventry Schools Chess League – where we are the only Junior School in the league!

You can find out more information on fixtures and results at Bablake Junior School on the Bablake Sport Website.
