Celebrating The Class of 2009 - (1) Book Club Leaders and Librarians

Sixth Form Library

Our Class of 2009 leaves Bablake next week for Study Leave and, today, we begin a series of features on just a few of those Sixth Form students who have been outstanding role models for our younger pupils.

Librarian Mrs Lucy Ryan has written the following tribute to the students who have been tremendous ambassadors in our Main School Library:

"Hannah Davies, Ellie Griffin, Ruth Jones and Sam Samson have all been involved in the Library for at least the last 5 years. On Ellie’s first day, she remembers being invited by her 2nd Year mentors, who were also Library Book Club members, to a Book Club meeting in the Library, as they knew she would like it! She must have enjoyed the experience as she became a regular member of the Book Club along with Sam, Ruth and Hannah. When the girls became Sixth Formers, they took on the responsibility of setting up and running the Junior Book Club.  They have all done a marvellous job of encouraging Shell and 2nd Year pupils to explore new genres and authors, and have become mentors and friends to the younger pupils.

As well as this, the quartet have all been Sixth Form Pupil Librarians and have been an enormous help in the smooth running of the Library. As well as their day-to-day duties in the Library, Ellie and Sam have produced recommended read booklets relating to books in their favourite genres: Sam with graphic novels and Ellie with romance.

Another Sixth Former to mention here is Jess Hunter who was also a member of Book Club and has put in many hours of invaluable service as a Pupil Librarian. Jess is an avid reader and was ideally placed to produce recommended read booklets in the genres of dystopia, fantasy and YouTube-inspired books, currently one of our most popular genres. All five booklets are available to pick up from the Library reception desk.

Joel White has been instrumental in the creation and success of the newly formed Alternative Book Club. This Club caters for reading contemporary fiction as well as an appreciation of the classics. He has also been an inspiration to his loyal band of Fifth Year boys.

Finally, we must also mention the following Pupil Librarians who have offered up their free time, attended regularly and have served the Library faithfully: James Allitt, Yuchen Duan, Priya Minhas, Ananya Nair, Hannah Ward and Ciara Wyman.

All of the pupils mentioned above will be very much missed when they leave us in the summer."

Mrs Ryan's glowing tribute to the students mentioned above is a perfect summary of the impressive calibre of our Sixth Formers and we wish them every success in their forthcoming exams and life beyond Bablake.
