Celebrating The Class of 2009 - (4) A Coeducational Education

Sixth Form Co-curricular

We say goodbye to our Class of 2009 in the year Bablake proudly celebrates its 40th year as a coeducational school. There has never been any doubt that 21st century Bablake offers equal opportunity to all students throughout the school, but amongst the legacies our Class of 2009 will leave is the establishment of a Feminist Society.

Crow House captain Roisin Bowe, who is eagerly looking forward to studying Economics at university, has been the voice for Bablake's Feminist Society, which she established with fellow Upper Sixth students Charlie Bramwell, Ruby Griffin, Hannah Mordey, Philippa Morris, Ruth Truslove and Emily White.

Head of Careers Mr Mark Woodward, who nominated Roisin as a pupil champion for a national initiative promoted by Aldi and The Daily Telegraph, added: "Roisin is yet another member of the Class of 2009 who has excelled in so many ways. She has stood out in the classroom and was a fine addition to our Enrichment Question Time panel last month. As well as being remembered as an excellent musician and dancer who supported her younger sister Enya's outstanding 'Back to the 50s' charity concert so keenly earlier this year, Roisin should be applauded for prompting positive discussion about feminism and helping prepare our community for challenging inequality in society."

Roisin was asked by our Headmaster to explain the premise for our Feminist Society at our 2015 Prize Giving and this may be viewed by clicking here.
