Suwetha Is An Impressive Chess Megafinalist

Senior School Chess

Many congratulations to Shell Form pupil Suwetha Bhavanandan who was a successful megafinalist at the recent Delancey UK Schools Chess Challenge.

Suwetha, who has been playing chess at Bablake throughout her time at our Junior School, received a super trophy to celebrate her excellent win in the U12 Mixed competition and we are sure she will soon be challenging our Senior pupils in next season's fixtures and competitions.

The UK Chess Challenge, which began in 1996 with 700 schools entering, involving approximately 23,000 children, now has over 2000 schools involved. Every child is able to win prizes, whether badges, gold spots, mascots, trophies and even baseball caps, so everyone has something to play for. There is enormous enthusiasm for chess both nationally and at Bablake, with it being one of the most enjoyable and exciting ways for pupils to learn how to think.
