Vice Presidents' day at Old Wheatleyans RFC this weekend was marked by a thrilling 1st XV game versus Old Leamingtonians.
Trailing 10-0 after barely 10 minutes, the Old Wheatleyans could have been level at half time if the last kick of the half (a penalty) had been successful. With a man advantage, the Wheats' plan had not included conceding an early second half try, but two converted tries gave them a 21-15 lead going into the final quarter.
Pressed into defence for much of the final ten minutes, the final play of the game delivered a cruel blow for our former pupils' side as the Old Leamingtonians pressure brought about a try close to the posts and a crucial, calm conversion for a 22-21 win.
