Pupils and Parents Enjoy Their First Meeting With The Self Esteem Team

Senior School Life Choices

We were delighted to welcome Grace Barrett, co-founder of the 'Self-Esteem Team' to Bablake this week.

Grace was invited to talk to parents of our Second year pupils about how to build children's self-esteem and break habits of unhelpful mental behaviours. In her presentation, she was able to emphasise the importance of positive thinking and offer practical tips to help develop more self-confidence.

Developing resilience in young people, by helping them develop a personal toolbox that eventually enables them to bounce back from disappointment and solve problems for themselves, is a key aim that drives our pastoral support and Life Choices programme.

Earlier in the day, Grace led an excellent workshop with some of our Fourth year 'Mental Health' ambassadors. This was a very positive experience and pupils were very much impressed with Grace's own resilience, humour and honesty. She spoke about her life as a singer-songwriter, and how severe eczema had affected her when younger; she also offered the group some nuggets of wisdom on how to increase self-esteem.

We look forward to future visits from Grace and other members of the Self-Esteem Team.
