A Rainbow Cinderella Returns For One Night Only!

Senior School Harrismith

UPDATE: We are sorry but we have heard the repeat performance of 'A Rainbow Cinderella' has been cancelled.

[We invite everyone to support a repeat performance of the Bablake version of 'A Rainbow Cinderella,' the show originally put on at our partner school in South Africa, Harrismith Secondary.

The repeat performance at Bablake will take place on Thursday 30th March at 7.00pm, with tickets costing £3, and once again all proceeds will go to Harrismith.

Mr Ian Appleby (former Head of English) comments: "It would be easy to say much about the impact of a show on so many young people who live largely in African low cost housing or shacks round the perimeter of the school; all I will say is that performing in the show proves stimulating, rewarding, inspiring and exciting for young people who live often hard lives with very few opportunities.

Each year Bablake undertakes a number of fundraising activities to support its link with Harrismith Secondary School and a group of students will be going to South Africa this summer. In previous years, a concert in February has been a major fundraising activity for charity, but this year Head of History Mrs Helen Skilton thought it might be a good and relevant idea to present one of our South African shows, hence my involvement in Bablake drama after a gap of some ten years.

The show is our take on the traditional 'Cinderella' story. We do not have ugly sisters, only mean ones, and our show features four handsome princes, not the usual one. The action is complemented by 17 well known songs. There are a few differences from the 2015 South African production, but, by and large, the show at Bablake replicates in style and content the South African show.

The show was performed on 17th February to a most enthusiastic audience and proved so successful that we are staging a second performance and aim to provide another very entertaining and enjoyable evening. We would all very much appreciate your support."

Please contact Mrs Skilton to reserve tickets or buy them in school in the EDM Foyer during the latter part of lunchtime.]
