Senior Pro Helps 1st XI Share Spoils

Senior School Sport

Bablake's 1st XI football team completed a pleasing season with a draw at home against local rivals KHVIII.

Senior pro and goalkeeper Arjan Basra proved the difference between the two sides in the 1st XI end of season derby. Not only was he imperious between the sticks, providing a solid barrier to the potent threat KHVIII carried up front especially in the second half, but remarkably he also was the first name on the scoresheet 10 minutes into the game.

The strong wind sweeping down from the Astro end of our playing fields acted as Arjan's ally as his huge clearance caught out KHVIII's goalkeeper when it bounced beyond Bablake's strikers and the opposition defence before nestling in the back of the net. After Arjan's goal was celebrated by the Bablake band of supporters, KHVIII soon began to dominate the possession. Drawing level before half time, our opponents then went ahead midway in the first part of the second half.

Gradual pressure on the KHVIII goal however brought about a bundled equaliser for Bablake late in the game and at the final whistle, neutral spectators would have declared the draw to be a fair outcome overall.
