BJS Hockey Impress at Midlands Champs

Junior School Junior School Sport

The Bablake Junior School U11 Girls Hockey team put on an impressive performance at the recent In2Hockey Midlands Championships.

Having reached the Midlands final, after excellent results in the previous rounds, the girls knew they were in for some tough competition. Meeting RGS The Grange in their first match, they started positively with a 1-0 victory. With 5 group matches it was a physically tough morning but the girls did extremely well coming 3/6 in the group, only losing 2/5 matches (to the eventual tournament winners and runners-up!).

In their last match, the playoff for 5th/6th position, they met Northampton High, Junior School. As the skies turned grey and the hail started to fall, the BJS girls netted a short corner, which was met shortly after with a goal from Northampton. The 1-1 result left the teams tied in 5th place. Coming 5th in the whole of the region is an amazing achievement for the girls.

It was a great way to end their hockey careers at BJS, Miss Mullan, who joined the girls from the Senior School to help umpire at the tournament, is already looking forward to the girls joining Shells Hockey in September! A big thank you to Mr Bogyor for his fantastic coaching and all his efforts to get the girls to this stage of the competition.

Thank you also to all the parents who came to support.
