Bablake Cellist Wins Royal Academy of Music Place

Senior School Music

Many congratulations to Harry Scott-Burt who has just won a place at the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music.

Harry's place at the prestigious academy follows a very successful year at Primary Academy and it means he will study there on Saturdays until he is 18 years old! He is absolutely thrilled to be continuing at the Academy, and, although it means a very long week of learning, he is really looking forward to continuing with his teachers Eva Doroszkowska (piano) and Bozidar Vukotic (‘cello).

Harry also recently returned from the National Children’s Orchestra U13 Easter course, finishing on Sunday 9th April with a concert at the Anvil, Basingstoke. He wrote this great report about his experience:

“I have just come back from my NCO U13s Orchestra Easter Course. This is my 4th year with the NCO, and the 2nd year I’ve been sitting on the front desk of the cellos. I have really enjoyed my week and we played some fantastic music, including Tchaikovsky’s 'Capriccio Italienne' and 'Vorspiel' from Wagner’s opera 'Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg'. Our conductor, Peter Stark, was amazing and had some really interesting things to say about the music we were playing. It was brilliant to work with a well-known conductor – interestingly, he had conducted my Mum when she was at College as well as in the CBSO!

I have had an amazing sectional tutor, Francois Rive, and I feel my ‘cello playing, in the orchestra and also generally, has improved hugely. I have met lots of people, made new friends and some of the best bits of the week included eating KitKats with them in my dorm! However, the concert at the end of the course was the best part of the week; I was amazed and inspired by how much we had improved in just 8 days. I am so glad to be part of NCO because it is a lot of fun and it is good to play with other people of my standard but also my age. Finally, I am very excited about the summer course at Sedbergh School, I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone again.”

Well done, Harry, both on your achievements and the excellent report above!
