Another Superb Lunchtime Concert At St John's

Bablake's relationship with St John the Baptist, Coventry, is a long and memorable partnership for both parties. 

For many years the location for our Carol Service, recently St John's has hosted a regular annual programme of lunchtime concerts arranged by our Music department.

Yesterday, our String Quartet - Ellie Aitchison (violin), Mrs Cathy Scott-Burt (viola), Harry Scott-Burt ('cello) and Dasha Sutton (violin) - played a rigorous and delightfully varied programme to a responsive, appreciative audience.

Pieces performed were:

• Divertimento in D major K 136 1st movement (Mozart)
• Arie 'Mein glaübiges Herz' (Bach)
• Two Rondeaux (Purcell, arr. Thorp)
• Pizzicato Polka (Strauss, arr. Thorp)
• Notturno from String Quarter no. 2 (Borodin)
• Prelude to Carmen (Bizet, arr. Thorp)
• Makin' Whoopee (Donaldson, arr. Thorp)

The concert was the final of Bablake's four performances at St John's this academic year, but our musicians look forward to returning in September for the first part of our 2017-18 programme.
