Anna Receives A Distinction For New ABRSM ARSM Qualification

Senior School Music

Many congratulations to Fifth Former Anna White on her most recent music qualification.

Anna was not only the first Bablake musician to take the ABRSM's new ARSM qualification and, indeed, one of the first cellists in the country to do so, but she was also awarded a distinction, scoring 47/50!

The ARSM is only open to those musicians who have already passed Grade 8. John Holmes, the ABRSM's Chief Examiner, is quoted online as saying this new award is 'unique in focusing solely on practical performing skills – nothing more, nothing less. It’s about the art and craft of musical communication through a half-hour programme which you put together according to your own individual musical strengths and enthusiasms. As well as focusing on the playing or singing of your repertoire, ARSM also involves assessment of the performance of your programme as a whole, giving you valuable feedback from two complementary perspectives.'

Anna's fabulous achievement also allows her to add the letters ARSM - Associate of the Royal Schools of Music- after her name!
