Sweet Science To Tickle Technicians' Test Buds

Senior School Science

On Wednesday, we look forward to the arrival of Technicians from 10 different schools and local theatres to take part in Bablake’s fourth annual Science Technicians Conference.

This year's event is entitled ‘Sweet Science’ and will look at how sweets can be used to demonstrate models of abstract concepts such as DNA and allotropes, as well as how sweets can be used as a safer alternative to traditional practicals.

Once again the event has been organised by Miss Sam Holyman, Bablake's Junior Science Co-ordinator, with excellent support from our Senior Technician Miss Amy Hardie and Breckland Chemical Suppliers.

This year'e event has been expanded to welcome Food Technology technicians, PGCE students, education consultant John Booth, and Ruth Patchett, who is the Royal Society of Chemistry Education Co-coordinator based at the University of Warwick.

Miss Holyman, enthusiastic as ever, commented: “I am so excited this event has gone from strength to strength. Sadly this will be my last conference at Bablake, as I leave at the end of this academic year, but I have already been asked to run a similar conference in July at one of the schools who are coming today. It has been a pleasure to be part of such a great event; I have learned so much from all the delegates and really appreciate the hard work and support from Lynne Purshouse at Breckland.”
