Local artists enthuse creativity at Bablake

Art Senior School

The Art Department welcomed to two visiting artists to run workshops and to help the budding imagination and creativity of the pupils over two days this term.

The Monster making workshop was run by local artist Emma O’Brien, who has visited Bablake a number of times previously. The 2nd year pupils involved worked through the process of developing their ‘monster’ character, choosing their materials and then the best way to construct it using a variety of textile techniques.  By the end of the workshop each pupil had their own monster to take home – they produced some terrifyingly delightful soft sculptures! Emma’s own work which ranges from illustrations, books and soft sculptures can be seen on www.naughtymonsters.com along with more information about these workshops.

The Creative Animation workshop was run by Jemma Foy, who has many years of experience in the industry and runs Let’s Animate based in FarGo Village, Coventry. The animation work allowed the pupils to learn skills such as character development, storyboarding, and Claymation techniques. They followed this by working through the development of the filming itself with aspects of lighting, editing and applying soundtracks to their own short films.
