Doors Open for New Library

Senior School

The Library opened its’ doors today to a crowd of students eagerly awaiting their first glimpse of the refurbished space.

It has long been on the agenda to improve the library facilities and there have been many suggestions over the years how we could do this. The architect commissioned with this task has certainly proved that it was possible. The space is bright and airy, retaining its’ vibrancy and purpose, providing a study area for students and a comfortable and relaxing reading space.

Very aptly, the first member of staff to open the door happened to be Ms Carolin Pfennig who was, until recently, Assistant Librarian, followed closely by the first pupil. There were queues of pupils taking out books and buying plastic book covers. First staff issue? To Lynsey Lawrence, after browsing the Biology section – obviously!

A classic response from one pupil, "At last!" when they saw the notice on the door advising the Library was open. Yes, I think we all agree, at last the library is open; at last we have a spacious, stunningly refurbished library space; at last we can progress with the business of encouraging a reading culture within Bablake.

Thank you to all staff and students who have helped to make this possible!
