Armistice Day Services

Current Affairs History

Chaplain Reverend Sacha Slavic and Mrs Lynda Jackson (RS and Head of PSHCE) presided over moving and sincere Armistice Day assemblies yesterday, for our 3rds and above and Shells to 2nds respectively.

Both assemblies included observation of the traditional two minute silence to mark the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the time when the armistice, signalling the end of the 1914-18 1st World War, became effective.

The Senior assembly took a different format from previous years with the Hall seating adjusted so that the ceremony could be focused on the back wall where those who fell in service, both pupils and staff, are commemorated.

Our Chamber Choir sang in the Senior assembly, three of our key Combined Cadet Force members, (Blake Hatfield, Jonathan Porter and Will Rowland) delivered wreaths and a book of Remembrance, and 2nd year pupil Alex Hyde played 'The Last Post' with great poise.

Assemblies earlier in the week have also concentrated on the horrors of war and our Headmaster's reflections in his weekly bulletin also follow this theme.
