Author Visits (1)- Ali Sparkes

Archive Archive

Our Main School librarians and the English department, led by Mrs Kate Duke, do an excellent job of promoting the reading of first class traditional and modern literature through our Power Readers scheme.

Another initiative that encourages reading good literature is the regular programme of visits from local and national authors for year group presentations, and traditionally in the final week of term, our Shell and 2nd year pupils benefit from these visits.

This year was no exception as our Shells had the privilege of listening to Ali Sparkes, whose first stand-alone novel, 'Frozen In Time', won the Blue Peter Book of the Year Award in 2010. Ali Sparkes' books have been translated into many languages from French to Japanese and Polish to Korean, and you can find out more about her SWITCH series if you click here.

The presentation at Bablake was most memorable and it was easy to agree with the following description of Ali Sparkes on Amazon: 'Ali's involved in assorted exciting projects from new novels to screenplays, theatre and animation... but she maintains that if you were to snap her in half she would read 'Children's Author' through the middle, like Brighton rock.'

Tomorrow we will report on the double act that our 2nd years enjoyed!
