In 2011 a small party of Bablake pupils travelled to Mexico and Belize on their World Challenge Expedition. A year later, a group of 4th and 5th form pupils are eagerly planning an expedition to Malaysia where they will face a new set of challenges.
Kathryn Jones, one of those looking forward to the trip, explains further: ' Before leaving, we each have the task of raising a daunting £3,445, so there will be plenty of fundraising events around Bablake over the coming year! We already have plans for a Junior School disco, Bablake's own 'Take Me Out' and a sponsored Stayawake.
Last term we held a successful Easter Egg Hunt with over 50 people taking part who had each contributed £2. Much of the money we fundraise will be spent on a community project in Malaysia. We are excited by the chance to give something beneficial back to the community, as well as realising this will put our own lives into perspective.
In July 2013, we will fly out to Malaysia where we'll spend the first few days adapting to the culture shock of a new climate, terrain and altitude. Next, the physical challenge begins; we are yet to decide the location but we know it will either be a jungle or high altitude trek. Then we will be able to immerse ourselves in local life with the community projects and, finally, have some rest and relaxation on the beach!
This is a trip we are all looking forward to with anticipation and excitement.'
We wish this group well with its fundraising and will obviously report on its progress over the next year.
