Our students receive the best pastoral care. PSHE seeks to enable pupils to
develop into informed, independent, caring individuals so that they may
fulfil their potential socially, personally, spiritually and intellectually.
Ultimately, it seeks to prepare pupils for the opportunities,
responsibilities and experiences of adult life in the 21st Century. It is
seen as central to the development of the whole person and, working
alongside and within the broad based curriculum at Bablake, is regarded as a
whole school issue.
PSHE therefore reflects the ethos and values of the school as stated in the
school prospectus. Citizenship is currently being audited throughout the
school. Many aspects of the Citizenship Framework overlap with issues
covered in PSHE, other subject areas, assemblies and enrichment/
extracurricular activities. It is therefore enviasaged that Citizenship will
take place alongside PSHE and will deal with topics not covered elsewhere in
the curriculum as well as supporting those which are.
In accordance with government guidance, and that of good practice, a
separate Sex and Relationships Education (SRE) policy has been formulated.
SRE is delivered as an integral part of the PSHE programme and has specific
aims as well as those which relate to PSHE and Citizenship. It is regarded
as '...lifelong learning about physical, moral and educational development.
It is about the understanding of the importance of marriage for family life,
stable and loving relationships, respect, love and care. It is the teaching
of sex, sexuality and sexual health. It is not about the promotion of sexual
orientation or sexual activity...'. (DfES Sex and Relationships Education
Guidance) It involves acquiring information, developing skills and forming
positive beliefs, values and attitudes.
Both the Learning Support Team and Careers Department have submitted
information about their programmes elsewhere on the site.
