Forest School

At Bablake, we are committed to the development of children’s personal, social and emotional well-being.

The child-led approach of Forest School enables all-round development, as well as fostering a relationship between the children and the natural environment. Through regular Forest School sessions at our woodland sites, children can create relationships with peers, develop their confidence and participate in achievable activities which offer appropriate controlled risk, such as cooking over fire, shelter building or using tools. Most of all, the children embrace the opportunity to explore, imagine and be creative with their learning.

Our Forest School sessions take place weekly and each child takes part in two half terms annually. The sessions follow a theme with provision for both planned and child-initiated activities such as:

  • Woodland craft
  • Den building
  • Supervised use of tools (bow saws, sheathed knives, palm drills)
  • Cooking over fire
  • Investigation and exploration of the natural environment
  • Imaginative play

I love my school, mainly because of my friends, but also because of the school itself. I think everyone should consider coming to Bablake.
