‘Compound Commanders’ take on the Chemistry Race
February 4, 2025
Our Sixth Form team, the Compound Commanders, recently put their skills to the test at the Chemistry Race, a fast-paced competition hosted at Rugby School.

The event, organised by students from the University of Cambridge and Rugby School, saw teams of Sixth Formers battling it out to solve challenging chemistry problems. Whoever scored the most points in the time limit, won.
Representing Bablake were Krish, Harvey, Vincent and Kim who took on the competition of 20 other schools, including heavyweights like Eton College.
Krish summed up the intensity of the event:
“Critical thinking was crucial as we tackled the hardest Chemistry questions under timed conditions. We had to work through everything from organic synthesis to complex physical calculations.”
At the halfway mark, the Compound Commanders were holding strong in fifth place. But as the clock ticked down, the competition heated up and they finished in a solid tenth place overall.
Harvey called it “a valuable experience,” while Vincent admitted, “it was very challenging and tested the highest of our abilities.”
Kim added that the event was “extremely beneficial in exposing us to complex chemistry concepts and developing problem-solving skills.”
A huge well done to the team for taking on the challenge and representing Bablake with skill and determination.
