Chemis-Tree Festivities

Senior School Chemistry

Our Chemis-Tree department spent the final weeks of term liberally casting festive spirit on all who ventured into its labs, as well as heading to a Leamington Spa Girl Guides event!

The Chemis-Tree selfies proved very popular with pupils and staff alike, while Miss Holyman (Junior Science Co-ordinator) and Miss Amy Hardie (Senior Technician) cast festive fire on staff and pupils who attended a lunchtime session of Christmas poetry. The words were punctuated with explosions, fire and all things magical. Mrs Mair (Reprographics) took some excellent photographs of the session and these will be published soon via our social media feeds.

Fizzing and sparkle were also the order of the day when Bablake helped local Girl Guides with their Christmas Craft, producing some lovely handmade gifts for family and friends. The 10th St Mark's Girl Guides, who meet on a Tuesday night in Leamington Spa, made bath bombs with the support of Miss Sam Holyman. Miss Holyman said: "It was great fun making the presents and it is surprising how a little bit of kitchen equipment and a sprinkle of science know-how can make an impressive gift. I was pleased Bablake was able to help enthuse the youngsters."

Guide leader Samantha Rivera, involved in Guiding for over 30 years, added: "As we entered Winter, Christmas Craft provided an engaging part of the programme, giving the Guides an opportunity to try out new skills and produce something they were proud of to take home."

Miss Amy Hardie (Senior Science Technician) researched the methods and prepared all the chemicals for the event. She is a keen practical chemist herself and even tried out the recipe at home with her own children. She said: "Both my daughters enjoyed making these as gifts for their grandparents and even tried out a few themselves!"

Photographs submitted.
