Live Music Warms U6th Spirits

Senior School Old Wheatleyans

Former pupil Wes Finch and long-established local musician Jools Street put on a live concert for our Upper Sixth students in Enrichment today.

Wes, always a very welcome visitor to Bablake, has established himself, alongside Jools, as one of Coventry's most highly regarded current musicians, and was featured on Radio 3 earlier this year as part of the station's Shakespeare celebrations.

Our students enjoyed a mix of original songs, including two tracks that Wes will be releasing in Spring 2017 from an album celebrating Shakespeare's sonnets, and the excellent 'Riverbed' from his latest album 'Awena'. There was a particular appreciation for an excellent cover of Arctic Monkeys' 'When The Sun Goes Down'.

The afternoon also gave young at heart teachers turned minstrels Mr Julian Bunce (Classics and EPQ co-ordinator) and Dr Toby Smith (Head of RS) the chance to play three fine covers including Queen's 'I Want To Break Free'.
