An Inspiring #WomenEd Conference

Staff Outreach

All those attending the first West Midlands #WomenEd CPD event, hosted at Bablake, agreed the day had been a tremendous success.

Ms Hannah Wilson, co-founder of #WomenEd and instrumental in the success of the event, commented: "This weekend's #WomenEd event at Bablake was our inaugural West Midlands meeting. Over 100 educators joined to be inspired, empowered and pledge to #BeBoldForChange. The conference was opened by West Midlands Regional Schools Commissioner Christine Quinn and Claire Cuthbert, the youngest female Multi Academy Trust CEO in the country.

A series of workshops were facilitated by leading women in education, before the event closed with keynotes from Dame Alison Peacock (Chartered College of Teaching CEO) and Dr Jill Berry (National College for School Leadership) who both encouraged everyone to grow through connections and collaborations across the #WomenEd regional network.

My own highlight was a #leadmeet, which enabled new voices to find a platform to share their leadership journeys, while I would like to thank both Bablake and Mrs Maria O'Neill for hosting us, and PET-Xi and Leadership Matters for sponsoring the event."

Bablake Life Choices and Charity Coordinator Mrs Maria O'Neill added: "As a West Midlands regional leader, I was determined to contribute to the success of the network and let everyone know what a caring and positive community we are! Being part of an amazing team really helped and at the conference you could see and feel how integral the team spirit and values were.

I would also like to thank all those who helped to organise the event behind the scenes, those who attended as delegates and of course those who facilitated workshops. All four keynote speakers inspired us with their personal stories of shattering glass ceilings. It is important men and women challenge gender stereotypes; only together can we achieve equitable balance and ensure that women's paths to success have fewer unnecessary obstacles and barriers."
