Lord Mayor Presents Composition Prize to Bablake Pupils

Senior School Music

On Monday 11th June, Bablake Fifth Year pupils Alex and Dasha attended a prizegiving ceremony with the Lord Mayor of Coventry.

Mrs C Scott-Burt accompanied Alex and Dasha and commented,

'It was a great pleasure to accompany Alex Hyde and Dasha Sutton to the presentation of their composition prizes from the inaugural Coventry Association of International Friendship (CAIF) arts prize. Councillor Blundell, Lord Mayor of Coventry (himself an alumnus of the Coventry School Foundation) presented the prizes to all the winners and spoke with great pride about the city of Coventry, its themes of peace and reconciliation (led by Coventry Cathedral) and its emphasis on diversity and equality.'

CAIF has a 50-year history and enjoys links with 26 towns around the world. During the prizegiving, the Lord Mayor thanked CAIF for all their work and spoke of the huge debt owed by the city council to CAIF for the many artistic trips and events organised with many of their partner towns. He finished by speaking of the exciting times ahead for Coventry with the upcoming City of Culture plans and said that he is looking forward to showing others what we can do by welcoming people to our city and extending the hand of friendship. He congratulated all the winners and presented Alex and Dasha with their certificates and prizes.

Congratulations to Alex and Dasha and many thanks to Mrs Scott-Burt and the music department for their continued support.
