Bablake Sixth Form Students Achieve Exceptionally Good A level Results

Bablake students are celebrating another year of excellent A level results after benefiting from a new Sixth Form Centre and adapting very well to the new A level examinations.

The exciting developments in the Bablake Sixth Form have provided students with a ‘bridge to the adult world’ with many being accepted onto the most competitive university courses, including Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Law, Economics and Engineering.

A Level Results Summary 2018

  • 17% of all grades are A* (national: 8%)
  • 46% of all grades are A* or A (national: 26%)
  • 74% of all grades are A*, A or B (national: 52%)
  • The overall pass rate is 99.7%
  • 97 students sat the exams
  • 28 of 34 Extended Project Qualifications were graded A* or A grade (82%)

Headmaster, Mr John Watson, commented:

“We are delighted with the success of a year group which has risen with such commitment and enthusiasm to the academic challenge of new A level examinations – supported by the dedication of their teachers and benefiting richly from the healthy enjoyment of our co-curricular programme.” 

Bablake Students Celebrate Competitive Success

  • School Captain Julian Wreford achieved 4A* grades and an A in his Extended Project Qualification and will be reading Computer Science at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge.
  • Top Midlands cross-country runner Olivia Kelly collected 3A* grades at A level, an A* for her Extended Project and an A grade at AS level and will be reading Physics and Philosophy at Pembroke College, Oxford.
  • Deepra Sinha will be reading Medicine at St Hugh’s College, Oxford, and seven other students have secured entry to medicine, dentistry or veterinary science courses.
  • Abilan Vijayaratnam gained 4 A* grades and an A in his Extended Project, and will study Aeronautical Engineering at Imperial College, London.
  • Avni Kant, a talented harpist, achieved 3A* grades at A level, an A* in her Extended Project, and 2 A grades at AS level.
  • Jakevir Shoker, Luke Wyman and Salim Zayyan all exceeded 3A* grades.

Deloitte Apprenticeship for Remy

Remy McNamara was one of just three students chosen from over 1700 for a Deloitte BrightStart Higher Apprenticeship. Remy is looking forward to the challenge of the apprenticeship: “I hope to gain the skills and expertise that will kick-start my career in the corporate world in the best way possible. I am so excited to see what the next four years hold!”

Excellent Value Added

Jack Poppitt, Olivia Owen, Abilan Vijayaratnam and Caitee Midgley, who joined Bablake at 16, achieved 13 A*/A grades between them after two years studying in the Bablake Sixth Form.

Head of Sixth Form, Mrs Alison Tumber, said: "It is always pleasing to see the students you have taught over the last seven years achieve such excellent A level results. This year I am particularly delighted to see that those students who joined Bablake for the Sixth Form have made the most of all the opportunities afforded to them over their two years here and have achieved some exceptionally good results".
