Outside the classroom

Outdoor learning is a strong feature at our Pre-Prep and all our children have access to covered learning spaces in addition to our beautiful grounds.

We encourage our children to spend quality time being present in the moment and noticing the nature around them. The outdoor environment here at the Grange is a place to thrive in moments of exploration and curiosity.

Part of our outdoor learning ensures that the children gain a sense of responsibility for their environment and sustainability, talking about how we look after the natural world around us and discussing aspects such as recycling.

Physical Education

Developing a love for sport and other physical activities is a key part of our approach at Pre-Prep. Children are encouraged to practise a variety of skills alongside teamwork and co-operation. We offer skills lessons, fitness sessions and team games, taught by sports staff and class teachers. Activities takes place in our extensive grounds and in our very own tennis court.

Swimming is one of our popular activities. In Reception, children swim every week during the Spring and half of the Summer Term. Year 1 children swim every week during the Autumn and half of the Summer Term. Year 2 children swim every week in the Summer Term.

Forest School

Forest School sessions are a real favourite here amongst the children. We are fortunate to have extensive grounds in which the children are able to practise a wide range of skills and immerse themselves in the natural environment. Sessions run throughout the year and provide for both planned and child-initiated activities under the supervision of a qualified Forest School Leader.

Through the sessions we encourage the children to develop a connection and love of nature, by providing positive experiences and many opportunities to explore the outdoors. Activities include whittling, den building, woodland craft, problem solving and team building. The children also learn to make fires and then enjoy hot chocolate and toasting marshmallows.
