Celebrating Christmas with our Community

December 8, 2023

We hosted our annual festive Senior Citizen Christmas party this week, extending a warm welcome to senior citizen guests from the local community, friends of Bablake, former pupils and staff.

The event, expertly organised by Mrs Bamforth and Mrs Tumber, was a resounding success. Dressed in a fabulous Mrs. Santa outfit, Mrs Tumber moved through the room, engaging with both old and new friends, sharing lots of festive cheer. Meanwhile, Mrs Bamforth and her team served hand crafted Christmas cakes, sausage rolls and mince pies, which were met with much appreciation and enjoyed by all.

Adding to the festive cheer, our Year 9 students did a commendable job serving the food, teas, coffees, mulled wine and even the occasional glass of sherry! Their warm conversations and laughter created a lively and welcoming environment for our senior guests.

Upper Sixth student Beth, took charge of organising the afternoon’s entertainment. This included a performance by our student band, who played a fabulous cover of ‘Jingle Rock’, a song from our upcoming school production ‘Billy Elliot’, and a very entertaining compere, Daniel, whose jokes kept everyone thoroughly entertained.

Our Senior Citizen party, a bi-annual tradition held in both summer and winter, is a true representation of the Bablake community. Some attendees have been part of these celebrations since the start in 2004. Margaret Walton, 93 years young, has attended for two decades and remarkably, she proudly wears the same festive bauble necklace every year.

The afternoon was a splendid affair for all – visitors, staff and students alike. It captured the spirit of the season with its blend of fun, music and culinary treats.
