Year 4’s Science Adventure at Thinktank

As part of Science Week and their exploration of States of Matter, our Year 4 pupils had an exciting trip to the Thinktank Science Museum in Birmingham.
One of the best discoveries was that toothpaste isn’t just a thick liquid or a soft solid, it’s a non-Newtonian fluid!
Inspired by this, our pupils stepped into the lab to create their own slime, experimenting with its unusual properties.
Dressed as real scientists in lab coats, goggles and gloves, they also conducted hands-on experiments, mixing bicarbonate of soda and vinegar to produce gas and then successfully inflating a balloon with its chemical reaction.
Beyond the lab, pupils explored the museum’s interactive galleries, visiting some fascinating topics such as Our Past, Wildlife, Things About Me, and We Made It.
It was a brilliant day, with discovery, hands-on learning and plenty of scientific wonder.
