Sport

Sport and exercise are integral in the life of Bablake Junior School pupils.

At Bablake Junior School we believe that physical education, experienced in a safe and supportive environment, is vital and unique in its contribution to a pupil’s physical and emotional development and health.

Our PE and Games curriculum aims to provide pupils with increased self-confidence, giving them the ability to manage themselves successfully in a variety of situations. A balance of individual, team, and competitive activities caters for all needs and abilities. The scheme aims to promote an understanding of the many benefits of exercise. Physical Education is considered a vehicle to facilitate access to co-curricular activities and skills; aiming to be a subject which endeavours to provide appropriate, stimulating, challenging and enjoyable learning situations for all pupils rather than being concerned exclusively with motor skills and techniques.

PE

Physical Education takes place every week and children learn many transferable sports skills in these lessons. PE is taught throughout the school in such a way to reflect the overall aims, values and philosophy of the school and also as a foundation subject to satisfy the proposal of the national curriculum. Pupils learn a variety of different sports and activities including Health related Fitness, Basketball, Short Tennis, Badminton, Dance and Movement, Athletics and Ball Skills

Games

We believe in general participation and the pursuit of excellence. All pupils get the chance to represent the school in fixtures and many go on to play representative sport to a much higher level. We win a high percentage of our fixtures against local and regional schools and the girls were recently county hockey champions whilst the boys are regularly county and regional cricket winners. All of our fixtures and results can be found on the Bablake Sport Website.

Swimming

All pupils learn to swim with lessons taught in half termly blocks in our indoor, heated swimming pool. They also have the opportunity to swim after school (one day for those who require additional support and one day for specialists).

Stroke work is the key element in lessons and is supplemented by lifesaving and water sports such as water polo.
