Technology Centre Impresses Design Tech Students

Sixth Form Design Technology

Our L6th Design Technology students' visit to the Manufacturing Technology Centre based at Ansty Business park left a very favourable impression.

The tour provided the budding engineers and designers with the opportunity to witness first-hand some of the most advanced manufacturing techniques currently being developed: e.g. titanium 3D printing and laser welding with the second most powerful laser currently in existence.

While the visit perfectly complemented the work these students have been studying as part of their Product Design A Level course, the highlight had to be the 3D virtual environment, where everyone had a chance to step into a computer generated world in which they could walk around and discover a newly designed industrial manufacturing facility.

Mr Sam Williams (Design Technology) said: 'A number of the pupils commented on how much of a contrast the facility was compared with their recent trip to the Morgan Motor Company workshops. Once again, many said how inspiring they had found the experience and how it had further motivated them to pursue a future career in engineering.'
