Bablake's Reading Week Returns

Reading Week

Following the impact of last year's successful inaugural Bablake Reading Week, where departments across the school stepped outside their 'schemes of work' for the Shells, 2nds and 3rds, next week sees the return of this initiative.

Mr Alistair Hopkins, Deputy Head (Academic) explained further: 'Reading is a fundamental part of our pupils’ learning at Bablake. As well as improving their ability to communicate, they also encounter ideas which they may not have met before. To that end, 'Reading Week' is concerned with pupils discovering something different about their subject; under their teacher’s direction, they take control of their learning.'

Exciting plans are already in place: e.g. Chemistry will be looking at isotopes in greater detail, Junior Science will be investigating face transplants, Art will be covering graphic design and poetry, Biology will be exploring Charles Darwin’s great voyage of discovery on HMS Beagle, and our librarians Mrs Julie Needham and Mrs Lucy Ryan have arranged an author visit and a Book Fair.

We look forward to reporting on a number of the week's activities in the Newsroom.
