Class Of 2008- (1) Morwenna Hocken: National Youth Theatre

Sixth Form Drama

As the Class of 2008 approaches its final few days of formal secondary education, we will focus the majority of this week's Newsroom on celebrating recent achievements by those in this U6th year group.

Morwenna Hocken, who joined our L6th at the start of the 2013-14 academic year and was an impressive editor of the Performing Arts section of The Wheatleyan, has just received the great news that she has successfully auditioned for the National Youth Theatre's Epic Stages course this summer.

The Epic Stages course is aimed at emerging creatives who want to develop a career performing, producing or staging high quality professional theatre. Delivered by industry experts with experience producing large-scale theatre at leading venues, there is also a focus on performance and production talent within a wide range of skills. Former alumni include Orlando Bloom, Daniel Craig, Matt Smith (not the recent Bablake former pupil) and Catherine Tate!

Being accepted for the month long course in London will give Morwenna a fabulous insight into a profession she is committed to succeeding in. Only one person in 50 is accepted and it is also reward for her persistence since she auditioned previously for the shorter summer course that recent former Bablake pupils Simeon Blake-Hall, Hannah Elsy and Sachin Sharma have attended.

All in all, if we neglect to mention the shadow of ever-looming A2 examinations, May has been a super month for Morwenna since she also appeared as an extra in 'Autopsy', Channel 5's docu-drama about the death of River Phoenix. Filmed last summer, the programme was scheduled only last week.
