Former Pupil Hannah In Pole Position

Old Wheatleyans Engineering

Hannah Sugrue from our Class of 2002 has recently been feted by the Insitute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) as the 50,000th competitor in the annual Formula Student competition for aspiring race engineers.

University of Warwick graduate Hannah was project manager for the Warwick Racing team, which competed not just in Europe but Australia for its second competition outside the UK.

After almost 6 months of planning, fundraising and overseas collaboration, Hannah successfully managed the transportation of the Warwick Racing car to sunnier skies at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia among many other tasks in her time with the group.

Interviewed recently in the Coventry Telegraph, she said: 'Being part of the Warwick Racing team has been a fantastic experience and has helped me develop skills that are impossible to learn in a classroom.

It has given me the chance to get some hands-on experience of the challenges involved in developing an engineering project from start to finish- from sourcing funding, developing the design to actually building the car. These skills will be invaluable as I start my career in Project Management.'

Hannah finished by saying she was looking forward to taking the Warwick Racing car to Silverstone in July and pitting it against all the other cars at the competition. For this we wish her and her team all the very best in a competition that will see 135 teams take part from 28 different countries.
