EES Team Making Excellent Headway

Sixth Form Design Technology

Our new Engineering Education Scheme team visited Arup, our partner for 16 years, earlier this week and Sixth Former Lantian Pinkney has filed the following report:

"Bablake's latest EES team - Stefan Harris, Rob Jacques, Surajan Singh, Head of Design Technology the ever-youthful Mr Chris West and myself - devoted a day of Half Term to visit one of Arup's offices, in Solihull. It is worth noting we are entering the 16th consecutive year of Bablake's partnership with Arup for the Engineering Education Scheme.

Needless to say, the trip was beneficial and satisfying for all of us as young prospective engineers, with the gentle introductory activities developing our understanding of some of the professional planning processes necessary in the industry. When asked to choose an activity that needed planning, we chose our 2017 Leavers' Ball and soon found various obstacles challenging the plan of action, allowing us an introduction to the Gantt bar chart.

The afternoon session was also excellent as we were introduced to CAD software giving us the option of 2D/ 3D design work. Using various tools and with varying degrees of success but definite improvement over the session, we were able to produce models of: a house, a doughnut, a hexagon and various abstract shapes."

We look forward to reporting further on what is an excellent scheme. Bablake's internal procedure of applying for the EES involves an online application and formal interview with our Design Technology department, with full debrief on performance - all invaluable preliminary activity for impressive future professional practice.

Mr West was delighted to chance upon former pupil David McLennan during the visit to Arup.
