A Great Start To The New School Year For BJS

Junior School

Bablake Junior School pupils enjoyed a fantastic start to the new term and have been very busy since September.

After welcoming our new Year 3 pupils to the school everyone settled in quickly to working hard and enjoying all of the co-curricular activities available. Here is a selection of what our pupils have been up to during the first half term of the year…

Charity

A team of parents, pupils and friends took part in the Coventry Fun Run earlier this month, raising money with Henry Chislett, a Year 4 pupil at BJS, for Myton Hospice.

Bablake Junior Pupils raised £157.70 during their Macmillan Afternoon cake sale at the end of September, their total added to the Pre Prep and Senior School totals came to a huge £1212.10 raised for Macmillan.

Junior School pupils were treated to visits from Charity groups in the Bablake Sixth Form during an assembly in October. Pupils got very excited about how they can help support charities such as CRY and Zoe's Place this year and discussed the charities they are going to support in their Student Council meeting.

Donations for our Harvest collection this year, which go to the Coventry Food Bank, weighed in at a huge 168.35kg. A big thank you to Rev'd Yvonne Stone who led our harvest assembly and to parents for the very generous donations.

Visits and Trips

BJS Year 4 pupils welcomed Mrs Chalker, our local dentist, into their class in September. Mrs Chalker taught the children about teeth and how to look after them.

Year 3 went on a trip to Chedworth Roman Villa in the Cotswolds. It was a beautiful day and the children had a great time learning about life in Roman Britain. They toured the villa and looked at the spring that always flows and never freezes, the baths and the dining room with their wonderful mosaic floors and the toilets. They sorted archaeological finds and thought about what they told them about Roman life. They particularly enjoyed dressing up as slaves and making medicine for the household. The children were complimented on their wonderful behaviour by staff at the Villa and other visitors.

Year 5 had a brilliant day in the sunshine at Foxton Locks. Especially watching a boat navigate through the staircase locks!

Sport

BJS U11 Rugby team met their new heroes, the Japanese Rugby team at Warwick School. They were also treated to a coaching session from Worcester Warriors.

BJS A Chess Team beat a Campion High School side, featuring 6th Formers, in the Coventry Schools Chess League. We are the only Junior School in the league!

BJS pupil Sofia Clarke qualified for the British Junior Skating Championships following her 3rd place at the latest IJS event.

All the results for BJS teams can be found on the Bablake Sport website.
