What Lies Beyond Bablake?

Old Wheatleyans Careers

At the end of an academic year, it is not unusual for Bablake students - not just those who have completed their time in the Sixth Form and are looking forward to fresh challenges - to assess progress made over the year, set new targets and turn their minds to future goals.

Former pupil, eminent medic and author Qanta Ahmed, on her last visit to school, spoke of physically writing down her goals and reassessing this list monthly, half-yearly or annually to suit the individual.

The years beyond Bablake are exciting and seem to fly past. For those at university, time is spent not just gaining excellent qualifications allowing progress to the next stage of a fledgling career but also enjoying new independence. For most, enjoying that impressive mix of co-curricular activity and the academic programme, nurtured while at Bablake, most definitely carries on, and it is the management of this balance that helps impress future employers.

Nayantara Sriram is one such pupil - a recent graduate in LLB Law from the University of Leicester. Whilst completing her demanding degree, she was the founder and Editor-in-Chief of 'Leicester Law Review'. Alongside this, she also published and released music that has been aired on MTV and is available on iTunes; she also has an album release in the offing.

Through her dancing, Nayantara also featured in a Bollywood movie 'Yamla Pagla Deewana 2'. Now, in the midst of applications for a Master's and employment, she is certainly making the most of her summer by currently interning at the World Health Organisation in Geneva.

Endearingly, Bablake students and their peers do not always realise how talented and employable they are. The 'iGeneration' has so much to offer employers and it is especially pleasing to hear about the impressive paths our Old Wheatleyans tread after leaving the school.

Today's news item is the thoughts of Bablake's Careers department.
