Business & Economics

The Business and Economics Department is a thriving part of Bablake.

Facilities

The department comprises three dedicated teaching rooms with full AV facilities. One of these classrooms has 14 networked computers.

Curriculum

Business and Economics are available at A level through Edexcel.

Ethos

In addition to high levels of academic achievement, the Department offers an enriching and engaging learning experience. Pupils will be connecting with real-world events through a variety of business and economic related activities using a range of resources, media and learning styles.

Business pupils are likely to find themselves recreating the famous Pepsi v Coke taste tests which led Coca-Cola to make its infamous marketing blunder; analysing HMV's downfall; researching Starbucks' China strategy; debating Burberry's 'Britishness'; and scrutinising Amazon's accounts.

Economics pupils will be finding out about the basics of our market economy; debating the merits of welfare benefits in the UK; finding the link between cigarettes, lighthouses and healthcare; grappling with UK Government policy; international trade; researching the Gross Domestic Product of China and Gross National Happiness of Bhutan; and judging the most significant forces on developing countries.

We work hard to ensure your achievements and successes are celebrated and recognised.

Destinations

Many of our pupils embark upon degree courses in Business and Economics related areas at excellent universities upon leaving Bablake's Sixth Form. A very high proportion of former pupils gain employment in these areas upon graduating.

Co-Curricular

Pupils participate in a range of co-curricular activities including Charity Enterprise, Bank of England Target 2.0 Challenge, extension lessons, Oxbridge preparation, visits to local firms, BASE National Business Competition, Enterprise Day, Key Skills Day and optional educational visits abroad and to London.

Excellent value for money- I have children at other schools so I can make a comparison.
